More airlines in the US are requiring their employees to be vaccinated against Covid-19.
American Airlines, Alaska Airlines and Jet Blue are thus following United Airlines' line, after President Joe Biden and his staff have put increased pressure on the companies.
In addition to the large passenger traffic, the companies in question perform freight transport, special flights and other services for the government - which makes them subcontractors to the state, and thus they are covered by an order from Biden that personnel be vaccinated, writes the AP news agency.
Doug Parker, head of American Airlines, said on Friday that they are still working out the details but it is clear that "employees who choose not to get vaccinated will not be able to work at American Airlines.".
The airline's pilot union estimates that 30 percent, around 4,200, of the company's pilots are unvaccinated. TT
