More people choose to treat themselves on vacation

Summer is in full swing and many Swedes are enjoying their vacation. Travel agency Ticket's latest survey shows that more and more people are choosing not to hold back during their vacation. Almost half are not planning any special measures to keep costs down at their destination, while the economy is still affecting travel choices and how many people plan their vacation.

According to the latest survey by travel agency Ticket, economics still plays an important role when Swedes plan their trips. The survey shows that 32 percent say they choose destinations that are cheaper to fly to and 23 percent choose destinations to a greater extent based on how cheap it is to stay there.

At the same time, significantly more people than last year do not intend to hold back once they arrive at their destination. A total of 46 percent say they will not do anything special to keep costs down during their vacation, compared to 25 percent last year.

– It is clear that many people want to be able to relax and enjoy themselves once their holiday has begun. Although the economy still affects travel choices, we see that more people seem to prioritize the holiday experience itself over staying put, says Tiyoneh Jah, PR and communications manager at Ticket.

Among those who still plan to keep costs down, the most common strategy is to set a clear budget for the trip, which 19 percent state. This is followed by cooking your own food instead of eating out (15 percent) and choosing cheaper restaurants (12 percent). Just over one in ten also plan to bring snacks or food from accommodation on excursions to reduce holiday expenses.

– Those who want to keep costs down do so primarily by planning in advance. Setting a budget, cooking a meal yourself or choosing slightly cheaper restaurants means that many people can keep track of expenses without having to sacrifice the holiday experience, says Tiyoneh Jah.
