Interest in cruises abroad is increasing among Swedes. According to travel agency Ticket, bookings for cruises in the Mediterranean and the Caribbean, among other places, have risen by over 41 percent ahead of the summer. A new survey also shows that cruises are attracting more people than before.
Ahead of the summer of 2025, interest in cruises abroad has increased significantly. New booking statistics from the travel agency Ticket show an increase of over 41 percent compared to the same period last year. This is also confirmed in the travel agency's latest survey of Swedes' travel habits, where the proportion who prefer cruises as a type of trip abroad has increased from 4 to 12 percent since last year.
– We see that cruises are becoming an increasingly popular way to travel, especially among those who want to combine relaxation, experiences and convenience during their holiday abroad. We also notice that more people are looking for affordable travel, and many feel that you get a lot for your money on a cruise. The wide range of routes, ships and activities makes it easy to find something that suits everyone, says Tiyoneh Jah, PR and communications manager at travel agency Ticket.
This summer, the Mediterranean is the main attraction, with popular destinations such as Barcelona, Rome and the Greek islands. During the winter, many Swedes turn instead to the Caribbean, where tropical warmth and exotic experiences await.
Source: The survey was conducted on a nationally representative sample of Swedes aged 18 and over by the opinion and market research company YouGov on behalf of Ticket. The booking statistics refer to cruises booked by 20 May 2025, departing between 1 June and 31 August 2025, and are compared with the same period in 2024.
