2.2 million passengers passed through Copenhagen Airport in January, which is 14 percent more than last year and the highest January figure ever. The proportion of new and more modern aircraft at Copenhagen Airport has increased, so that now more than three aircraft at the airport are of an aircraft type that is less noisy and polluting than before.

  Development continues at Copenhagen Airport, where 2.226 million passengers passed through the terminals during the first month of the year.
 ”The winter cold has really taken over at home, so many people are traveling away from the snow and frost to the sun and warmth of Thailand and Spain. We have had a good start to the year and have never before had more than two million passengers pass through the airport in January,” says Peter Krogsgaard, Commercial Director at Copenhagen Airport.
 The number of passengers in January has increased by 14 percent compared to the same month last year.
”"Several airlines have opened new routes during the winter program and increased the number of seats and travel options to and from Copenhagen. This is very positive, and many people are taking advantage of it," says Peter Krogsgaard.
 More Norwegian and Swedish travelers
In January, Norway, Spain and the UK are the three countries with the most travelers. Between Norway and Copenhagen Airport alone, there were 214,000 passengers in January, and overall there is a large increase in routes between Copenhagen and the Scandinavian airports.
 ”A large proportion of Norwegian and Swedish travelers are transferred to the airport, where they land to continue their flights on one of the many routes out into the world from Copenhagen Airport,” says Peter Krogsgaard.
 Between Copenhagen and the Norwegian airports, the number of passengers has increased by 26 percent compared to the same month last year. This also applies between Copenhagen Airport and Sweden, where there were 147,000 passengers, which also corresponds to an increase of 26 percent.
 In total, there were 612,000 transfer passengers at Copenhagen Airport in January, which is 207,000 more than in January last year.
 Modern aircraft types pollute less
The proportion of new and more modern aircraft types at Copenhagen Airport has increased in recent years. Every day, an average of 700 planes take off or land at the airport, and last year 39 percent of all planes were more modern aircraft, such as the Airbus A320neo, Boeing 737 MAX or similar. In 2019, the proportion was down to five percent.
 ”This is a development that we are very pleased with. The advantage of the new aircraft types is that they are more fuel efficient and both produce less noise and pollute, so it is of great importance when airlines replace their aircraft fleet – and we see this as a continuing development,” says Peter Krogsgaard.
 Based on information from airlines, Copenhagen Airport expects that the proportion of more modern aircraft at the airport will have increased to 49 percent within a year.
 ”It is fantastic that almost half of all aircraft at the airport in the near future will be new aircraft types. Of course, we need to be prepared to handle more of the new and larger aircraft types that pollute less, and that is why we are expanding the troops where the planes are parked. We are continuously investigating how we can design the airport so that we continue to be as efficient and attractive an airport as possible,” says Peter Krogsgaard.
 Hectic weeks during the winter holidays
Friday, February 6th marks the start of the winter holidays, with many travelers from Denmark and southern Sweden departing from Copenhagen Airport. During and around weeks 7 and 8, 1.37 million passengers travel through the airport, which is ten percent more than last year.
 ”"We look forward to welcoming the many holiday-loving passengers into the terminals. Asia and the many ski destinations in the north and south are clear favorites for many travelers. In Asia, countries like Thailand and Vietnam are the most popular countries with sun, white beaches and fantastic experiences waiting," says Peter Krogsgaard.
 There are also more people who choose the plane when they go to ski destinations in the Alps or the Scandinavian mountains.
 ”"There is plenty of snow at the well-known ski resorts, so there are good opportunities to hone your skiing skills. In the Alps, the most popular ski holiday countries are Switzerland, Italy and Austria, and then there are also more and more people who skip the car trip and instead take the plane north to the slopes and off-road tracks in Sweden and Norway," says Peter Krogsgaard.
 From Copenhagen Airport there are direct routes to Scandinavian Mountains Airport, which is located near Trysil and Sälen, the airport in Östersund, which is located near the slopes in Åre and Oslo, where it is not far to the snow in Geilo and Norefjell.
