Up seven percent compared to summer 2018
Tourism in Sweden increased during the summer.
Compared to last year, the number of guest nights increased by seven percent during June and July.
According to the industry organization Visita, the increase is due to more people vacationing at home.
– More and more people are looking for sustainable and genuine experiences, and the Swedish tourism industry is far ahead in this regard, says Visita CEO Jonas Siljhammar in a press release.
Seven percent up in June and July and continued well in August. This year's tourist season was good, notes the industry organization Visita, referring to Statistics Sweden statistics.
Homeowner raises statistics
The increase in the number of guest nights during the first two summer months was seven percent compared to the same period last year. The reason is that more Swedes vacationed at home, but more European guests also boost the statistics, according to Visita.
– This is a strong development. More and more people are looking for sustainable and genuine experiences, and the Swedish tourism industry is far ahead in this regard. This, together with the appeal of Swedish nature, makes Sweden an attractive travel destination, says Visita CEO Jonas Siljhammar in a press release.
”Fantastic summer”
For August, the industry organization points to occupancy statistics at hotels in major cities, which rose from 81 to 83 percent.
– The overall picture is that it has been another fantastic summer for tourism to Sweden. The industry's importance for jobs and growth is great throughout Sweden, says Jonas Siljhammar.
