Air travel is at its highest level in a year in the United States. Just over 1,350,000 passengers checked into a US airport on Friday – the most people have flown in the US in a single day since March 15 last year, according to the US Transportation Security Administration (TSA).
When the coronavirus pandemic broke out just over a year ago, the number of air travelers plummeted. In the US, the bottom was reached on April 14 last year, when only 87,534 passengers checked in for a flight.
The highest number of passengers so far this year was on January 3, when nearly 1,330,000 passengers boarded a plane in the United States.
Over 534,000 people have died in the country from the coronavirus – the worst outbreak in the world in absolute terms – but President Joe Biden hopes that all Americans will be offered a vaccine as early as May.
