This summer's holiday travel is dominated by destinations around the Mediterranean, with Spain leading the way with Malaga, Palma and Alicante. Travel pressure remains strong, with summer bookings up 10 percent compared to the same period last year. The top list is dominated entirely by European destinations, which suggests that the trend of nearby destinations is continuing. This is shown by recent statistics from the travel agency Ticket.
Summer is fast approaching, with the booking rate for summer trips having been high since the turn of the year. There are still summer trips left, even though the supply is dwindling with each passing week.
– In recent years, it has not been worthwhile to wait to book your trip in the hope that prices will drop, or to see what the Swedish summer weather will be like. As demand remains high, and charter companies still have a lower capacity than before the pandemic, prices tend to be higher the longer you wait, says Sofia Eddelid, PR and communications manager at Ticket.
Thailand and New York are two non-European destinations that did not qualify for the top list this year, both of which have decreased in the number of bookings by 30 and 6 percent respectively compared to 2023. Spain, on the other hand, remains unchallenged as the number one summer favorite for Swedes, with Malaga increasing by 26 percent and Mallorca by a whopping 30 percent. Cyprus takes the title of this year's rocket, which this year qualifies as a newcomer to the top list with an increase of 24 percent.
– Cyprus is one of the Mediterranean's sunniest destinations, where the heat arrives in early spring and only subsides in late autumn. It is therefore an excellent destination even for those who have the opportunity to plan their holiday before midsummer or after school starts in August, to take advantage of the lower prices outside the high season. The country attracts with its 56 beaches, fine-grained chalky white, all of which have received the EU's Blue Flag for clean water and eco-friendliness. There is something for everyone here, regardless of whether you are traveling as a family with children and are looking for shallow beaches – or if you are looking for peace with less untouched beaches, says Sofia Eddelid.
