The train company MTR Nordic is now selling MTRX, which operates high-speed trains between Stockholm and Gothenburg, to Finnish VR-Group.

– The sale is a commercial decision in line with overall business objectives, aimed at continuing the positive development of MTRX. We will now prepare for a smooth transition with the best interests of travellers as the highest priority, says Caroline Åstrand, CEO of MTR Nordic, in a press release.

The sale is expected to be completed in May 2024, pending approval from the relevant authorities.

– The market for commercial long-distance rail traffic in Sweden is very attractive – and it's approximately twice as large as Finland's, says VR's CEO Elisa Markula, continuing:

I am convinced that together we can continue to develop new services for Nordic train travellers.
