The first test flight of the American space agency NASA's new moon program Artemis begins on August 29. There are no people on board at the launch, but there are at least three mannequins.
At 98 meters tall, the rocket, including the Orion space capsule itself, is taller than the Statue of Liberty. The crew is waiting in a hangar at the Kennedy Space Center in Florida for repairs. Fuel leaks and other problems were revealed during NASA's launch tests. NASA engineers now assure that all problems have been resolved, but weather can still pose obstacles.
The first, unmanned trip, will last three months. If all goes well, the first manned trip around the moon is planned to take place in 2023, and by 2025, NASA hopes to be able to place astronauts on the moon again. The last time this happened was in 1972.
