The seven-week strike among factory workers at American Boeing could soon be over – if the union accepts the new offer.

The employer's new offer would raise wages by 38 percent over four years - slightly higher than the previous offer of a total of 35 percent pay increase over four years, which the employees rejected. They had also previously voted against an earlier, even lower offer. According to the union, members will vote on the new offer on Monday.

A strong reason for giving the thumbs down to previous proposals is that the company refuses to reinstate a previous pension plan, which was scrapped ten years ago, Boeing employees have told the AP.

Around 33,000 factory workers have been on strike since September 13. The strike has hit hard on the already financially strained aircraft manufacturer, which is estimated to be losing up to a billion dollars a month.
