Facial photos and fingerprints will become standard for everyone crossing the border into Sweden. However, citizens of the EU and Schengen countries are exempt.

On October 12, a new border crossing system will be introduced at all airports and ports in Sweden that have connections with countries outside the Schengen area, the Police writes in a press release.

This means that everyone coming from countries outside the EU must provide fingerprints and take a picture of their face when they enter the country.

”"This may mean that there will be some queuing for travelers initially, but we expect it to go smoothly," says Louise Wahlberg at the Police.

The purpose of the tighter border controls is to strengthen internal security in Europe.
