At the same time as SAS chooses to move its Hong Kong route from Arlanda to Copenhagen, a new direct route to China appears. It is China's second largest airline, China Eastern, which will fly to Shanghai four times a week. The route takes 10.5 hours and will be operated with Airbus A330-200. The annual capacity is 50,000 passengers a year. Today, around 200,000 passengers travel from Arlanda to China.

”"We hope that China Eastern can increase to 6-7 departures a week," says Karl Wistrand, Vice President of Swedavia.

”"We are very happy about this line. China is one of our largest export markets, last year alone trade grew by 30 percent," he says.
