India's largest airline, IndiGo, is coming to Denmark and opening a new direct route between Copenhagen and the metropolis of Mumbai, providing better connections to one of India's most exciting cities in the world's fastest growing economy.
In a month, it will be possible to fly directly from Copenhagen Airport to India's second largest city, Mumbai. This will happen in October, when the Indian airline IndiGo opens a route with three departures a week.

The new route will provide better connections for travelers from Copenhagen – just as tourists and business travelers will have more opportunities to get to Denmark and the rest of Europe,” says Peter Krogsgaard, Commercial Director at Copenhagen Airport.
A city of millions with opportunities
Mumbai is India's second largest city with a population of more than 20 million. The city is India's financial and cultural center and home to Bollywood, the world's largest film industry.
”Mumbai is a fantastic city, full of contrasts and offering a variety of experiences. The city is a fascinating mix of colonial history, impressive architecture, Bollywood glamour and world-famous street food,” says Peter Krogsgaard.
A country in great growth
India has overtaken China as the world's most populous nation with nearly 1.5 billion inhabitants. With an annual GDP growth of 6.5 percent, India is the world's fastest growing major economy.
”"India is a thriving, rapidly growing economy, and Mumbai is one of the world's largest cities and India's financial center. I am sure that Danish companies will greatly benefit from the new direct route, which strengthens the connection to a central hub for global trade," says Peter Krogsgaard.
The new route will also strengthen air freight between the Nordic countries and India and provide direct access to one of India's largest freight hubs with good connections to all of Asia. This will make it easier to handle pharmaceuticals, e-commerce and goods such as electronics and fashion. At the same time, Danish and Nordic companies will have faster and more flexible deliveries and better access to the entire Indian market.
India's largest airline
IndiGo is India's largest airline with a fleet of more than 400 aircraft, and Copenhagen is the company's third European destination, after the company began flying to Amsterdam and Manchester earlier this year.
India is the world's third largest aviation market, surpassed only by the US and China, and with a growing middle class, growth is expected to continue in the coming years.

The new route between Copenhagen and Mumbai will open on October 8. With three departures per week between Copenhagen and Mumbai, there are a total of eight departures per week between Denmark and India, as Air India flies between Copenhagen and Delhi five times a week.
IndiGo is deploying a Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner with seating for 338 passengers on the route to Mumbai, and there are departures every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.
