A new heat wave has swept across southern Europe. In France, temperatures are expected to exceed 40 degrees.
The southern parts of France have been experiencing unusually high temperatures for the past few days, with temperatures exceeding 37 degrees on Thursday. Now the extreme heat is also starting to make its way up into the country.
On Tuesday and Wednesday next week is expected to see temperatures above 40 degrees and several warnings have been issued.
According to weather reports, the ongoing heat wave could reach record levels – both in terms of number of days and temperature.
The longest record during the same period was achieved in 2012. Then the heat wave lasted for five days, with temperatures of up to 41 degrees.
Also in Italy are now experiencing another heat wave. The cities of Florence, Bologna, Perugia, Bolzano and Brescia have been issued with the highest level of warnings.
The extreme heat, with warnings of up to 40 degrees, is expected to last for at least another week, especially in the central and southern parts of the country.
In the capital, Rome, residents and tourists are looking for shade to protect themselves from the heat of the sun.
”The heat here is very humid and we suffer a lot, even though we are very used to the heat because some days we have reached 45 degrees in the shade,” says tourist Vanesa from Seville, Spain.
