Travelers have voted for the best airline of the year.

This year, Singapore Airlines tops the list and Qatar Airways is dropped to second place.

Qatar Airways has lost its title as the world's best airline in the annual ranking by British airline rating site Skytrax, which says Singapore Airlines is the best choice for those looking to fly safely and comfortably.

The top spot is the Singaporean airline's fourth since Skytrax began the rankings in 1999. Overall, Asian airlines dominate the list – seven out of ten are based in Asia. Germany's Lufthansa, in seventh place, is the only European airline on this year's top list.

Singapore Airlines has been upgrading its fleet over the past two years with more spacious cabins, larger screens and even first-class suites with double beds in its huge Airbus A380 planes, with the aim of competing with Middle Eastern-based airlines, writes Bloomberg.

Both Qatar Airways and Singapore Airlines offer some of the world's longest non-stop flights - the former flies between the Qatari capital Doha and Auckland in New Zealand, a flight of over 16 hours. The latter flies the current record-breaking route - Singapore to New York, which takes almost 20 hours.
