New entry rules come into effect in UK on Wednesday, April 2. From then on, Swedish citizens who want to visit the country must have applied for a digital entry permit in advance: ETA (Electronic Travel Authorisation).
This also applies to travelers from other European countries.
ETA costs 10 pounds
The entry permit costs 10 British pounds, which is equivalent to about 129 kronor today, and an application can be made either via the app "UK ETA" or via the British government website. An application must be made for each person entering the country, including babies.
Applicants for an ETA should usually receive a response within three working days. Once you have received the permit, you are allowed to visit the UK for up to six months within a two-year period, as long as your passport is valid during that period.
There are certain exceptions when you do not need the digital entry permit, for example if you have a visa or if you have permission to work or study in the country.
