New floods in the Netherlands and Belgium, lightning strikes in Switzerland – wild weather continues to wreak havoc across Europe. Germany, however, seems to have escaped this time.

Belgian media published videos of raging waters that swept away cars on streets in the province of Namur on Saturday. In neighboring Netherlands, Friesland was also hit by torrential rain and flooding.

In Switzerland, SRF Meteo reports that 25,000 lightning strikes were recorded in just a few hours on Saturday. The extreme weather continues with torrential rain and hail on Sunday, and the weather service has posted photos of large hailstones that people have picked up.

In Austria, floodwaters caused several houses to be torn apart, reports the APA news agency.

German meteorologists at the DWD weather service also warned of lightning on Saturday, but the new rains do not appear to have had any major consequences there. On Sunday, DWD's maps show mostly sunshine in Germany.

At the same time, parts of the affected countries are far from recovering from the unprecedented amounts of rain that came just over a week ago, which claimed hundreds of lives and created widespread devastation in Belgium and western Germany.
