New strike at German airports

Security staff at four German airports will go on strike on Monday. 351 flights will be canceled and around 100,000 travelers will be affected during the 24-hour strike.

”"In addition to cancelled departures, you can expect longer queue times," the Verdi union wrote in a statement.

The strike affects airports in Berlin, Bremen, Hamburg and Hanover. Ralph Beisel, director general of the airport association ADV, emphasizes that the measure will hit airports struggling to recover from the Covid pandemic.

Verdi demands higher wages and better conditions for working during inconvenient working hours.

”"Working conditions need to become more attractive so that enough people want the jobs," the union writes.

When a similar one-day strike was carried out in February, an estimated 300,000 travelers were affected.
