A declared strike among security personnel risks leading to new flight chaos at seven German airports on Tuesday, including in Frankfurt.

Last week, the Verdi union began strike action in Stuttgart, Cologne-Bonn and Düsseldorf to demand higher wages for security staff. On Tuesday, a total of seven airports are affected: Frankfurt, Hamburg, Munich, Hanover, Bremen, Dresden and Leipzig/Halle.

The strike is expected to have major consequences for air travel across Europe – Frankfurt is the continent's fourth largest airport. Lufthansa is urging its passengers to rebook their tickets.
