Never before have so many people chosen to take a trip across the Øresund Bridge. During week 28, the weekly, weekend and daily records of previous summers have been broken.
Between 10 and 17 July 2023, 212,197 vehicles crossed the Øresund Bridge, the highest number of crossings in a single week ever. The previous weekend record was broken on 15 and 16 July, when 66,818 vehicles crossed the bridge, while the daily record was broken on Saturday 15 July, with 35,165 crossings. This means that the previous daily record from 30 July last year has already been broken.
Summer is always a traffic-intensive period on the Öresund connection and, just like in previous years, July stands out in terms of the number of passengers. This was also the case during week 28, when the previous weekly, weekend and daily records were broken.
– We broke traffic records three times last summer and are already doing so again this year. Danes are traveling like never before and that contributes to the record, which is believed to be an effect of greater interest in holidays in the local area and that the Swedish krona exchange rate makes the experiences even more attractive, says Berit Vestergaard, Sales and Marketing Director at Øresund Bridge.
“Despite a weak Swedish krona, we see that Swedes' leisure travel has increased during the summer. This shows that the krona exchange rate is less important during the holidays when many want to experience the opportunities of the neighboring country,” says Berit Vestergaard.
