New turn for cross-border trade – Norwegian authority wants to open to six regions

Norwegian authorities want to reopen the border with several Swedish regions. This applies to Örebro, Gotland, Värmland, Västernorrland, Jämtland and Västerbotten.

”"In recent weeks, the number of cases has decreased significantly in these regions and FHI recommends that the entry quarantine be removed," the Norwegian Institute of Public Health - equivalent to the Public Health Agency - writes in a press release according to NTB.

The Norwegian Institute of Public Health therefore urges the Norwegian government to make a decision on changed rules. The government has announced a press conference for Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 PM when an announcement can be expected.

This spring, Norway closed the border with Sweden, which hit cross-border trade in Värmland and Bohuslän hard. At the end of July, the border with Värmland, among other counties, was reopened. But the buying spree was short-lived when the border was closed again on August 12.

There is now hope that the border with Värmland will be reopened. However, the border trade in Strömstad, which is located in Bohuslän, still does not seem to be able to access its Norwegian customers.
