The flight operations of bankrupt Nextjet are sold to Danish Air Transport A/S and Goldcup, under a name change to Air Scandic, which in turn is owned by the Norwegian Olsen Gruppen AS.
The plan is for flight operations to resume on June 11. During an initial period, air traffic between Mariehamn and Stockholm will be prioritized. After that, ”certain other” Nextjet routes will resume.
”"We are pleased that we have found a buyer for the business and that the Mariehamn-Stockholm traffic can resume shortly," says Nextjet's bankruptcy administrator Lars-Henrik Andersson in a press release.
The flight operations from the bankrupt Nextjet are thus being taken over by Danish Air Transport A/S and Goldcup, which is changing its name to Air Scandic, writes Ålandstidningen.
The company is in turn owned by the Norwegian company Olsen Gruppen, a fishing company headquartered south of Bergen. According to its website, the company owns five fishing vessels that fish for mackerel, saithe and herring in the Barents Sea.
Åland's Minister of Infrastructure Mika Nordberg is pleased with the announcement and tells Ålandstidnignen:
”I think this is the fastest way to get air traffic going, and from what the market says, Danish Air Transport has a good reputation.”
On Wednesday, the Swedish Transport Administration announced that the relatively unknown company Amapola will replace air traffic on three routes from Stockholm to Hemavan, Vilhelmina and Lycksele.
The first plane takes off on July 1st and Amapola's contract is only valid until January next year.
