The US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) could approve Boeing's crashed 737 Max for service again in about a month, sources told Reuters after a meeting with aviation authorities from more than 30 countries in Texas. However, the FAA has not made any public announcements.

”The only timetable is for the aircraft to be safe,” Daniel Elwell, who heads the FAA, tells media.

Even if the US gives the green light, it may be a while before other countries follow suit. In the past, the example of the country of origin, in this case the US, has often been followed, but the uncertainty is now greater because the FAA has been accused of having too close a relationship with Boeing.

Two crashes involving the 737 plane, in Indonesia and Ethiopia respectively, have claimed a total of nearly 350 lives.
