The nominations for this year's Grand Tourism Award are now complete. Here we meet nominees who, among other things, protect the region's cultural heritage, allow visitors to actively participate in nature conservation, increase the desire to read in children and young people, preserve endangered animal species, increase the desire for innovation and contribute to better public health.
The prize, which is being awarded for the 31st consecutive year, is awarded to an activity that, in a innovative and sustainable way contributes to developing the tourism industry. In addition, they should work to Disseminate knowledge to develop a sustainable tourism industry.
The nominees offer visitors a breadth of nature experiences and adventures, world-class food and drink, culture, unique accommodations around Sweden and a diversity of knowledge in different forms.
– It is gratifying to see that the nominees are not only committed to developing their own business but also feel responsible for contributing to the development of both the place, the countryside and the region in which they operate. The majority work to inspire and educate visitors for a greater commitment to sustainability and we see examples of how visitors can and want to contribute to local projects, says Katrien Vanhaverbeke, chairwoman of the Foundation for the Promotion of Knowledge in Tourism.
The Swedish Agency for Economic and Regional Growth is the principal of the Foundation for the Promotion of Knowledge in Tourism, which awards the Great Tourism Prize, the Cicerone of the Year and works to disseminate knowledge to actors in the tourism and hospitality industry.
