Norway advises against travel to Sweden

Both Norway and Denmark are introducing new travel restrictions for Sweden. In Norway, all Swedish regions are redlisted – with the exception of Kalmar.

Sweden has recently had a rising number of infection cases and therefore the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs advises against non-essential travel to 8 of Sweden's 21 regions, reports the Ritzau news agency.

The restrictions cover Halland, Blekinge, Stockholm, Jämtland-Härjedalen, Kronoberg, Uppsala, Västmanland and Örebro.

Normally, the Danish Ministry of Foreign Affairs advises against travel to an entire country if it exceeds 30 confirmed infected cases per week per 100,000 inhabitants. Sweden has exceeded that limit this week with 32.4 infected per 100,000 inhabitants, but instead of advising against travel to all of Sweden, decisions are being made region by region.

At the same time, the Norwegian Foreign Ministry has updated its travel recommendations and now advises against travel to Gotland, Värmland, Västernorrland and Norrbotten. This means that all regions in Sweden are red, except for Kalmar.

Travel advice is also being introduced for Latvia, Liechtenstein and Cyprus.

The government has "decided that these countries and regions will move from yellow to red on the infection map for Europe," the Norwegian government wrote in a press release. Anyone traveling to Norway from these areas from the night of Saturday, October 10, must undergo a ten-day quarantine.

The Norwegian Foreign Ministry has previously advised against travel to many other countries. This means that all of Europe outside the Nordic region is now marked red on the Norwegian infection map.
