The Norwegian government decides to shorten the time that incoming travelers must spend in quarantine, from ten to seven days.
At the same time, Prime Minister Erna Solberg urges her compatriots to continue to avoid foreign travel.
The vast majority of people traveling to Norway have had to undergo a ten-day quarantine after arrival.
But starting Tuesday, one week in isolation will suffice. However, in order for the quarantine period to be shortened, the traveler must be tested for COVID-19 on two occasions after arrival and both tests must be negative.
”"The possibility of shortening the entry quarantine upon testing is not a right for the individual and is dependent on the relevant municipality or private actors having the capacity to carry out the tests, or on the employer being responsible for the tests," the Ministry of Health and Care Services writes in a statement according to NRK.
However, the new rules do not apply to entry from the United Kingdom.
Earlier in December, it was reported how quarantine regulations had created problems at Oslo's international airport Gardermoen, including overcrowded hotels.
Regarding travel from Norway abroad, Norwegians are urged to continue to stay at home.
”"I think we can count on a fairly normal summer. I think we have to count on spending Easter here at home in Norway. I don't think we've come so far that we've all been vaccinated," says Prime Minister Erna Solberg (Høyre) to Norwegian TV 2.
In Norway, as in much of the rest of Europe, vaccination began on Sunday.
The Norwegian Prime Minister also says that she does not believe that Norway's neighboring countries will have an infection situation that makes it possible for Norwegians to travel abroad on Easter 2021, which falls in the first days of April.
”"The most important thing now is not to relax in the coming months. We must not have a new peak in infections," says Solberg.
According to the Norwegian Institute of Public Health and Johns Hopkins University, 421 people in Norway have died from COVID-19. Around 45,000 have been confirmed infected.
