Norwegian low-cost airline Norwegian has been awarded a four-year contract from the Norwegian Defense Ministry, estimated to be worth around NOK 1 billion. Norwegian is taking back the contract from airline SAS, which it has held since 2019. 

In a stock exchange release, Norwegian writes that the contract concerns the Norwegian Armed Forces' air travel in Norway and the Nordic region. The contract will start in the first quarter of 2024 and is estimated at around 250,000 trips per year. 

According to Norwegian E24 Norwegian takes over the contract from SAS, which had been a supplier to the Norwegian defense for the past four years. Before that, Norwegian had held the contract since 2008. 

”"SAS has been a proud supplier of transport services to the Norwegian defense for many years. We are now taking advantage of the outcome and hope that they have secured a good supplier of air travel in the future as well," says Knut Morten Johansen, head of information at SAS, to E24.
