It is the first step towards the government's goal that the country will begin electric scheduled air traffic by 2025.

”This is . . . a first example of us moving forward quickly,” says Norwegian Transport Minister Ketil Solvik-Olsen.

The Minister of Transport and Dag Falk-Petersen, head of state-owned Avinor, which operates Norwegian airports, have themselves taken a ride in the two-seater passenger plane for a few minutes around Gardermoen Airport.

After 2025, the goal is for all Norwegian passenger traffic to be carried out in electric aircraft. This is made possible by major manufacturers such as Airbus and Boeing working to develop battery-powered aircraft, while battery prices are falling.

The plane being tested in Norway is the Alpha Electro G2 model, manufactured by the company Pipistrel in Slovenia and weighs 570 kilograms.
