The Norwegian Civil Aviation Authority is demanding that SAS refund customers for cancelled trips before the end of November – otherwise, a fine will be imposed. But SAS cannot promise that they will be ready on time, writes Norwegian E24.
Since the corona pandemic canceled essentially all commercial air traffic this spring, thousands of SAS customers have been waiting to get their money back for canceled trips.
In Sweden, almost 50 customers who have not received compensation have contacted the Swedish Enforcement Authority, which has resulted in the authority registering two enforcement cases. The Swedish Enforcement Authority has ruled that SAS must pay the debt, including interest and fees, as previously reported by Di. But that has not happened.
Now Norwegian authorities are also taking action against the airline. The country's aviation authority announced on Friday afternoon that SAS must pay out all compensation before the end of November, otherwise it will face fines.
The fine will amount to 1 million kronor per month until the customers have been compensated. If SAS does not succeed in doing so before February next year, the authority does not rule out that the amount could be increased, it says in a press release according to E24.
SAS has promised that all customers whose trips have been canceled due to the pandemic will receive their money back, but it is not possible to say when the payments will be completed.
”"We have no time estimate for when we will arrive," says SAS's Norwegian press manager John Eckhoff to E24.
