The Norwegian low-cost airline Norwegian is closing a number of routes and six bases to reduce costs.
The measures are part of a savings package of two billion Norwegian kroner that was presented in December.
”The company has reached a point where necessary adjustments to the offering are required to improve long-term sustainability and financial performance in a very competitive market,” says Helga Bollmann Leknes, head of HR at Norwegian, in a written statement.
The airline is completely leaving Mallorca, Gran Canaria, Tenerife, as well as Stewart and Providence on the US East Coast. The company is also stopping flying the Boeing 737 from Rome in Italy but will continue with the Dreamliner plane.
The routes affected are within Europe and to the USA and the Middle East.
It is unclear how many jobs will be lost in the cuts, but according to Norwegian, the goal is to have as few people laid off as possible.
