Norwegian continues to invest in Skellefteå and extends air traffic between Stockholm Arlanda and Skellefteå until spring 2027.

The airline has been operating the route since October 2024 with two weekly departures. According to Norwegian, demand has developed positively, which is behind the decision to extend the flight programme. If passenger development continues in the same direction, the company also plans to increase capacity from Summer 2027.

– We believe in Skellefteå, and as several large industrial establishments are being made in the region, the need for good accessibility to the outside world will increase. It is therefore pleasing that we can now announce that we will continue to fly between Stockholm and Skellefteå throughout the 2026/2027 winter season. If passenger volumes continue to increase, we see opportunities to expand traffic during 2027, says Charlotte Holmbergh, Country Director Corporate Affairs at Norwegian.

The message is welcomed by both Skellefteå Municipality and Skellefteå Airport.

– In Skellefteå, we are entering a new phase of growth with several major industrial establishments, including Lyten and EdgeConneX. Air travel is absolutely crucial for providing residents, businesses, and the tourism industry with efficient connections to the outside world. We are therefore very pleased that Norwegian is continuing its investment and hope for even more departures in the future, says Lorents Burman (S), Municipal Commissioner in Skellefteå.

Even the airport's CEO Robert Lindberg views the announcement positively.

– That Norwegian continues to invest in Skellefteå is very pleasing and important news. We look forward to being able to offer even more travel opportunities to and from Skellefteå in the future, he says.

The continued investment strengthens accessibility to a region that is expected to see increased travel demand in line with the ongoing industrial expansion in northern Sweden.
