On June 4, Norwegian Air Shuttle ASA officially inaugurated its new direct route between Helsinki-Vantaa Airport and Malta, with the first departure at 16:15. To celebrate this long-awaited launch, all passengers on the inaugural flight were welcomed with exclusive goodie bags.

There was a festive atmosphere at Vantaa Airport as travelers were warmly welcomed at the gate and celebrated the new route together with Norwegian staff. A state-of-the-art Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft with comfortable seating for up to 189 passengers was waiting.

The seasonal direct service will initially operate once a week on Wednesdays. From mid-season, the frequency will increase to twice a week, with departures on Wednesdays and Fridays. This timetable offers travellers flexible options for both week-long holidays and shorter weekend breaks.

With a flight time of just over three hours, it is now easier than ever for Finnish travelers to experience Malta’s rich history, captivating culture and sunny Mediterranean climate. Malta will thus become part of Norwegian’s extensive range of summer destinations in the Mediterranean, and the new route is expected to promote tourism and strengthen economic ties between Finland and Malta. It will also give Swedish travelers more options for flight connections to Malta.

With over 300 days of sunshine, Malta is an attractive year-round destination with a rich range of historical attractions and a vibrant cultural scene suitable for both leisure and business travellers. The Malta Tourism Authority is excited about the new connection and looks forward to welcoming even more Nordic visitors to this sunny archipelago.
