The Norwegian parties Labour Party (Ap), Centre Party (Sp) and Socialist Left Party (SV) have agreed on a tourist tax.

The three parties have a majority in the Storting and can therefore introduce the new tax.

Now, municipalities that meet certain requirements are entitled to collect up to three percent in tax from cruise tourists.

– We have agreed on an accurate model for visitor subsidies to areas with special challenges, such as the Tromsø region and Lofoten, says Erling Sande (Sp).

The proposal has met with opposition from the tourism industry and parts of the opposition in the Storting.
