By spring 2025, Norwegian will re-establish the pilot base at Stockholm Arlanda. The Swedish base was closed during the pandemic, which hit aviation very hard. After the pandemic, the Swedish pilots have been based at one of Norwegian's other bases, and above all at the Oslo base.

The long-term plan has always been to reopen the pilot base at Arlanda after the pandemic. However, the recovery for aviation has been slow in Sweden, especially compared to Scandinavia, where the recovery has been much faster.

The disappearance of the aviation tax, a government that encourages and supports aviation with several measures, and a significantly better aviation market in Sweden, have contributed to the decision to re-establish the base at Stockholm Arlanda.

–We are very pleased to be able to start up a pilot base at Arlanda again and thus be able to offer our pilots a Swedish base so that they do not have to commute to any of our other bases. The aviation market in Sweden has improved significantly in the past year and this, combined with the fact that the aviation tax will disappear on July 1, 2025, means that we strongly believe in the Swedish aviation industry, says Norwegian's CEO Geir Karlsen.

Initially, approximately 60 pilots will be based at Arlanda. A cabin crew base already exists at Arlanda with approximately 200 employees.

Norwegian currently has 12 bases around Europe and recently re-established the crew base in Las Palmas. The Norwegian Group has just over 8,500 employees.

According to the press release.
