The airline Norwegian's Swedish company has filed for bankruptcy, Di can reveal at the same time that Norwegian shares are suspended from trading in Oslo.
Norwegian's Swedish subsidiary Norwegian Air Sweden AB has filed for bankruptcy, according to what Swedish communications manager Charlotte Holmbergh Jacobsson confirms to Di.
”"I can confirm that we have filed for bankruptcy in Attunda District Court for Norwegian Air Sweden AB," she says.
The background, the communications manager continues, is that the company in question was planned to be liquidated in connection with the Norwegian Group's ongoing financial reconstruction, which, among other things, involves a simplified company structure.
”"But unfortunately there are still debts that we have not been able to settle, and then there has been no other alternative than to file for bankruptcy for this Swedish company," says Charlotte Holmbergh Jacobsson.
She has no details about who the creditors are or how big the debts in question are, but says the Swedish bankruptcy does not affect the Norwegian group itself or its flight operations. Nor is it the Swedish bankruptcy filing that has caused the Oslo Stock Exchange to halt trading in Norwegian shares on Tuesday morning.
”"We have tried and turned every opportunity that exists," continues Charlotte Holmbergh Jacobsson, describing Norwegian Air Sweden AB's operations:
”"It is the Swedish airline, which has a AOC (Air Operator's certificates), a flying license you could say," she says, mentioning that aircraft are registered with the company, which, however, has no employees. The company has operated both Swedish domestic routes and international routes.
Are customers who purchased airline tickets affected by this bankruptcy in any way?
”"No, nothing. The plan will go as usual and according to previous plans," says Charlotte Holmbergh Jacobsson, who is employed by the company Norwegian Air Resources Sweden AB. This company, she says, has not filed for bankruptcy.
She emphasizes, in a follow-up question that Di asks by email after the interview, that the bankruptcy will not have any effects on the business itself in Sweden.
”"This has no consequences whatsoever for Norwegian's current or future flight operations in Sweden. Operations continue as usual. Flight operations continue as planned and travelers who have booked or plan to book tickets need not worry as this has no consequences whatsoever for our flight routes."”
Norwegian Air Sweden AB had a turnover of 919 million SEK in 2019, which is the most recent public financial year, and made a net loss of 76 million SEK in the same year.
