Border control officers at London's major Heathrow airport have announced they will go on strike at the end of the month. Between April 29 and May 2, over 300 members of the PCS union are expected to walk off their jobs and leave passport control.
The fight is over plans for new schedules, which the PCS says will ”force 250 members out of their jobs in passport control.” The changes will ”disproportionately hit those with disabilities or carers,” the union said.
The last time there was a strike at passport control at Heathrow – one of the world’s largest airports – the British government called in military personnel to keep the terminals open. It was in December 2022.
