A fee is now being introduced to visit Venice

Are you planning to visit Venice this summer? Then you will need a ticket. Starting this year, a fee will be charged to visit the immensely popular tourist destination.

For many years now, the Italian city of Venice has had problems with too many tourists wanting to visit the city at the same time.

– In the summer it's completely impossible, you can't be in Venice then, says a tourist.

Venice is visited by 25 million tourists every year. But a majority, around 14 million, choose to spend only one day in the city. One of the reasons for this may be that a nightly tourist tax has been introduced for a few years, which must be paid by those who choose to stay overnight.

As a next step in getting to grips with the tourist problem, another fee is being introduced.
