Dutch AIS Airlines announced the other day that it is closing its route between Malmö and Borlänge.

This spring, the same company closed the Gothenburg-Borlänge route, due to a pilot shortage and many cancelled flights. This means that there will soon be no regular domestic traffic at Dala Airport.

– Passenger numbers have shown a marked declining trend and in my opinion this is due to the fact that many departures from here have been cancelled, says Dala Airport's airport manager Per Nordahl.

The county's incoming regional councilor for regional development, Birgitta Sacrédeus, thinks it is serious that the county will soon lack domestic flight routes.

“We are the fourth largest export county and the business community needs to have aviation. And the health and medical services need to have functioning airports for organ transport to the hospitals in Falun and Mora,” she says.
