Finnair has started weighing passengers along with their carry-on luggage in a study aimed at better determining aircraft weight before take-off. The weigh-ins are voluntary and anonymous, and will be conducted on certain flights in February, April and May.

”"The measurements began at Helsinki Airport on Monday. So far, over 500 voluntary customers have participated in the weigh-ins," airline spokeswoman Kaisa Tikkanen told AFP earlier this week.

The weight of the plane includes, in addition to the plane itself, the weight of fuel, luggage, cargo in the hold, meals, water tanks for toilets and passengers, the company writes in a statement.
