On Saturday, April 22, Liseberg opened its gates for the summer season and it was the premiere of Liseberg Grand Hotel Curiosa and the new roller coaster Luna. On hand to participate in the celebration were both 100-year-old Ester and 0-year-old Sixten.
With balloons and fanfare, the summer season and the 100th anniversary celebration were inaugurated at the new gathering place Herman Lindholms Torg between the rebuilt South Entrance and Liseberg Grand Curiosa Hotel. There were fireworks and music by both the Göta Lejon music band and surprise artist ”Ebbot” Lundberg from The Soundtrack of Our Lives.
On hand to cut the ribbon was Ester Alléus, born on Liseberg's birthday, May 8, 1923. She was flanked by 0-year-old Sixten, born in 2023, who also cut the ribbon with the willing help of her father.
– It's incredibly fun to be here, I feel young again, exclaimed Ester Alléus when the ribbon was cut.
When the ribbon was cut and the fireworks were set off at the South Entrance, the gates to the park were opened for the start of the centennial, and guests were able to run in. The opening festivities continued with the premiere of the new Luna roller coaster – a so-called boomerang roller coaster, where passengers first travel forward and then backward, over the 225-meter-long track.
The summer season at Liseberg runs between 22 April and 24 September and will be a jubilee summer filled with extra jubilee activities. Among other things, four theme weekends will be arranged filled with everything from humor, seafood and hard rock to Liseberg nostalgia. During the jubilee weekend in June, Carl-Einar Häckners will take to the stage with his jubilee variety show ”Tidsmaskinen”. The last of the theme weekends will be Klubb Karusell in September when part of the park will be transformed into a vibrant open-air nightclub with pop-up bars, DJs, dance floors, live music, street food, games and night skiing in some of the park’s attractions.
In addition to the theme weekends, this summer there are around thirty concerts on the main and small stages, sing-alongs with Lotta Engberg on the main stage and around 20 dance evenings at Polketten with some of Sweden's most renowned dance and salsa bands.
