Oil shock: Airlines raise ticket prices

Remove

Airlines must now adapt to the ever-increasing prices of oil.

Norwegian low-cost carrier Norwegian has decided to raise ticket prices to compensate for rising oil prices and earlier this week Qatar Airways announced that an oil surcharge will be added to the ticket price.

SAS has currently agreed on a fixed price for fuel, but is monitoring developments, according to the Norwegian site Flysmart24.no. Norwegian has had a surcharge of 250-300 kronor for air travel in recent weeks, but will now implement the price increases as usual.

SAS has secured 90 percent of its fuel through hedging and is only affected to a limited extent by the price increase.

”It is not an urgent situation for us, but the industry as a whole must compensate for the increasing costs that a higher oil price brings.

"We are also looking at how other airlines will react if the development of fuel prices continues to have a severe impact on the companies for a longer period of time," says SAS's Head of Information Knut Morten Johansen, to the site.
