Russian oligarch Alexei Mordashov bought into Tui when the company went into crisis in 2020. Today, he is the travel giant's largest owner, with a third of the shares in the company.

But Mordashov has been placed on the EU's list of Russian oligarchs who may be subject to sanctions.

It is now clear that he is stepping down from Tui's board. The resignation is effective immediately.

Alexei Mordashov is worth $21 billion and has made his fortune in the steel industry.
