A year after Donald Trump's election victory, Swedes' interest in the United States continues to decline. So far this year, the number of Swedes who have booked trips to the United States has decreased by about 20 percent compared to the same period last year, according to new statistics from travel agency Ticket. The travel agency's latest survey also shows that reluctance to travel to the country has grown during the year.

According to the latest survey by travel agency Ticket, 64 percent of Swedes say they have become less inclined to travel to the United States because of Donald Trump. Of these, 78 percent say their attitude will not change as long as he remains president, and 6 percent say they will never travel back.

This is a clear increase compared to the travel agency's previous survey conducted at the end of last year, when 32 percent responded that their desire to travel to the US had decreased after Trump's election victory.

– The USA has long been one of the dream destinations for Swedes, but we see how interest has continued to decline throughout the year. The political climate clearly affects the desire to travel there, says Tiyoneh Jah, PR and communications manager at Ticket.

Although the number of travelers who have booked a trip to the United States so far this year has decreased by 20 percent compared to last year, the country is still one of the most popular to travel to. Classic destinations such as New York, Los Angeles and Miami continue to attract many Swedes, even if bookings are fewer.

“Many people still travel to the US to experience the country, but more people are reflecting on the destination than before. It's not just about price or selection anymore, but also about how you perceive the country as a whole,” she concludes.
