A weather record from 1949 has been broken in Målilla in Småland. According to SMHI, it is unusual for temperatures to be this high so late in October.
During the day, 21.4 degrees were measured at the measuring station, which erases the old record from October 17, 1949.
– This is the last time it was above 20 degrees this late in the season. It is clearly warmer and it is a record for being this far into October, says Hampus Sellman, meteorologist at SMHI.
The second highest temperature was in Gladhammar, also in Småland, with 21.2 degrees.
– It's due to the warm air we've had lying in the southern parts of Sweden during the day. But it's singing its last verse and now we're expecting slightly cooler temperatures. So that was probably the last we saw of this warm autumn, says Hampus Sellman.
The warm air has found its way up from Africa. But now, as I said, the British summer seems to be over. A cold front will pass through on Thursday, bringing cooler air into the country. Temperatures could reach a maximum of 15–16 degrees, according to SMHI.
Other locations that found their way above the 20-degree mark are Horn at 20.8 degrees, Malmslätt at 20.4 degrees and Härsnäs at 20.3 degrees.
