Paradise Island closed for cleaning

Remove

One of Asia's biggest tourist destinations is now closed for cleaning.

No tourists are allowed on the Philippine paradise island of Boracay for up to six months.
Only residents are allowed on board the ferries to the island.

Hotels are allowed to remain open, but are unlikely to receive many guests during the six months allocated for cleaning and environmental measures.

600 police officers monitored the closure when it went into effect on Thursday. President Rodrigo Duterte has called the island a ”scumbag.”.
