An earthquake with a magnitude of 4.7 occurred just before lunch on Rhodes. Several Greek media outlets are reporting this.

The earthquake's epicentre is located 22 kilometres north-northeast of Rhodes and 32 kilometres east-northeast of Symi, near Marmarida, on the Turkish coast.

Shortly after the alarm was raised, the travel company TUI sent a text message to its guests on Rhodes.

– Earthquakes are quite common in Greece, and in certain cases, we send out information to our guests. We think it's better to send one SMS too many than one too few, says Adam Györki, Nordic Communications Manager at Tui.
