Norwegian hotel magnate Petter Stordalen was sentenced in the district court to pay 184 million Norwegian kroner in unpaid taxes. The case will now be decided in the lagmannsretten – the Swedish equivalent of the court of appeal.

Stordalen appeared in court on Tuesday morning for the tax case that goes back more than ten years. The background is that the Norwegian businessman withdrew more than 795 million Norwegian kroner from the company Oslo Properties, which was later transformed into Strawberry Fields, his current company that includes Stordalen's hotel operations.

The Norwegian tax authorities considered that Stordalen had not paid tax and were also found right in the district court, a ruling that Stordalen has therefore contested.
