Phuket opens to all vaccinated people

Travelers from all over the world can now book a vacation to Phuket – if they are vaccinated. The decision was announced by the Thai government with the aim of achieving quarantine-free travel to the holiday island.

Thailand's tourism industry, which before the pandemic accounted for a fifth of the country's income, has collapsed in the past two years, plunging the country into its worst economic situation in two decades.

The kingdom has gradually eased its quarantine rules for entry. In July, fully vaccinated people from 80 countries could travel to the island and, if they stayed for 14 days, travel on to the mainland without quarantine requirements. On Friday, it was announced that the rules would be expanded.

”"This means that Thailand now welcomes travelers from all countries in the world," the tourism authority said in a statement.
