A regional plane and a military helicopter have collided at Ronald Reagan Airport just outside Washington, D.C. There were 64 people on board, American Airlines told CNN.
The plane, which came from Wichita, Kansas, crashed with a military Blackhawk helicopter, according to the US Federal Aviation Administration.
There were 60 passengers and four crew members on board the plane, according to American Airlines. Three military personnel were on board the helicopter, according to the military. There are no reports yet of any injuries or fatalities.
Police have recovered several bodies from the Potomac River, which is adjacent to the airport, the Washington Post reports, citing sources.
The accident occurred as the plane was descending for landing. The helicopter is said to have been approaching the runway when the collision occurred. Several helicopters, including military ones, are flying over the scene. The rescue service is also on site with boats.
US President Donald Trump has been briefed on the accident, White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt told Fox News.
All takeoffs and landings have been stopped, the airport said.
