A plane that had taken off from London's Heathrow Airport suddenly had to turn around after 40 minutes on Monday, reports the newspaper The Sun.

The reason? The pilot had not completed his final exam for the training and was therefore not a fully trained pilot.

The plane, which was headed to New York, made it as far as Ireland before it had to turn around.

The airline Virgin Atlantic has subsequently apologized and said that a mistake was behind it.
